Some moments in life are bigger than work, bigger than travel — they touch the deepest parts of your heart.
Last month, I had the privilege of officiating my nephew’s wedding in Alta, Utah. The Wasatch Mountains framed the day, the alpine light turned golden, and love was in every detail. From the welcome reception, lovingly perfected by my sister-in-law and niece, to the wedding day itself — every arrangement made by my nephew’s bride — exquisite in vision and flawless in execution. From the gown, the bridesmaids’ elegance, the champagne tower, my nephew’s crisp white dinner jacket, to the Eisenhower-style cake — each element spoke softly of their shared military service and deep mutual respect.
The ceremony was rooted in the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer, giving it a foundation of tradition and sacredness, while weaving in two powerful rites:
✦ The Roman-inspired “dextrarum iunctio” — the clasping of right hands, once used by soldiers and later couples to signify loyalty, trust, and unity.
✦ An ancient Celtic handfasting — the couple’s hands bound with a specially handcrafted cord from Edinburgh, Scotland, tied into a single infinity knot, symbolizing a bond with no beginning and no end.
It was heartfelt, elegant, and profoundly moving — a reminder that love, when honored with intention and respect, is one of life’s greatest inspirations.
💍 To my nephew and his bride — may your marriage be as strong as the mountains that witnessed your vows, and as full of light as the sun that set on that perfect day.
